Engaged For Peace (Churches)
Following the recent attacks on the Northen part of Cameroon by the terrorist group Boko Haram, Safe Rights For Kids (SR4K) decided to carry out a 3months sensitization campaign on peace and security. The campaign was done in the North West Region of the country; Bamenda 1, 2, 3, Wum and Bali. Most part of the campaign was carried out in Wum which is a border town to Nigeria. The insurgents have been noted for continuously attacking the border towns of Cameroon so SR4K decided to carry out a sensitization program in the North West region mostly in Wum since its closest to Nigeria.
This campaign was done in the months of September, October and November; focus was in schools (primary, secondary and high schools), religious denominations, associations, groups and meeting groups. More than 2500 youths and adults were sensitized; the greater population was the youths. This project was divided in to three (3) phases. In the month of September it was done in churches in Wum, October it was done in schools in Wum and in November it was done in Bamenda 1,2,3 and Bali.
Religious bias has always been a great concern as far as religion is concern. We decided to go to churches and make them understand that there is a freedom of religion so there should not be any form of conflict between faithfuls from other houses of worship which may be a threat to the peace and security of our nation or the people around. We went to the Catholic church, Presbyterian church, Full Gospel church, 7 Days Adventist church, Christ embassy. We talked to religious faithfuls about the importance of peace, child education, love, unity, multi cultural dialogue, self sustainability, forgiveness, patriotism, vigilance, No to religious bias, we also talked to parents to do a follow up to their children so that they should not become violent extremist because of neglect or isolation.
